I started my Cannas a few weeks ago indoors, quite a few are really getting big now. When will it be ok for me to plant them in the ground. Also will I have to keep putting them outside for a few hours to get them used to the sun before they go in the ground? Thanks

Since you are in NY, I'll say anytime after May 24 should be safe for you. Mine have been spending time on my front porch for the past 2 weeks, getting sun and overnight cool, and they seem to be doing well.

I plant mine out by mid April every year without an issue, along with tomatoes. I live in Merrick. I start them indoors mid-March so by the time they're planted, the vigorous ones already have 3-4 leaves and are a foot tall. I leave them out where they get a few hours morning sun for about a week. After that, they can be planted in full sun.
