Can Canna Survive a Frost?

Posted by grancru z5 MI (My Page) on

I recently planted a lot of canna in pots. We are now expecting a frost tonight and I dread having to pull ever pot (some huge) into the garage. These are from a trade and half have leafed out, half not.

Someone please give me some good news.

RE: Can Canna Survive a Frost?

Weather advisory says "Widespread frost after midnight. Lows 32 to 36." which is not that cold. I think canna in big pots will be OK unless leaves are alredy over the soil level. In the fall I dig them up after first frost kills all leaves and they are fine. I'd take small pots inside though to be on a safe side, it would be a pity to ruin the beauties.
