Black Knight Canna Lily in container???

I just met a lady who said she would be happy to share some of her Black Knight Canna Lily bulbs with me.

I know nothing of these plants. Could someone please educate me. I know that my area zone 5b/6, I will have to dig them up in the fall and store for the winter. ??? regards planting, size of these plants, (I've read anywhere from 3.5 - 6 feet tall, damp/wet soil and lots of sun.

Was wondering if these can be grown in containers and if so what size? Figure they will have to be staked due to the height.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cannas do not have to be staked. They grow on sturdy stalks, much like bananas do. If you get very high winds, they might fall over, but even in our weather, my still stand tall.

You want to start with a container that is about 2 or 3 times the size of the rhizomes you put in it. The rhizomes will spread quickly, so you may be dividing them before the season is over. Plant the rhizomes about 3 inches deep. And keep them watered and well fed (Miracle Grow or a generic works well). Black Knight is one of the best.
