I have a new canna lily planted about 8 weeks ago, it is has a lot of new growth with leaves and flowers but on the last shoot that came up, (where the flowers would bloom) a green round knobby growth grew almost like a catepillar, but it definately isn't alive. Any ideas? Sorry I can't describe better very new at gardening. Any help would be very appreciated!

Are you sure that this "knob" isn't where a flower was originally, and this is a seed pod?

I'm sorry, again I am clueless and just learning. This growth looks like a green catepillar and tonight when I got home there are two more smaller ones on the same plant. The plant doesn't look sick in any way, but it isn't blooming as fast as it was. I have two other ones planted close to it and they are produccting flowers as quickly as the old one die. Thanks for your help!!

I'm almost positive that what you are looking at is a seed pod. Break open the largest one and look carefully inside. You should see a few white immature seeds.

What do I do with them if they are seeds?

You can throw those away, but if you leave the others on the plant, you can grow them like any other seeds. The problem is, they will probably not look like the parent plant if your plant is a hybrid. They will probably not be as good, but you never know when a good seedling will turn up.
