I'm no canna expert by far (can't overwinter them for the life of me), but maybe you planted them too deep, or too early? They're not hardy, and if you had some frosts, maybe they're goners? Did you dig them up and inspect them?

I don't think we've had frost after I planted them. The spot is not sunny enough and the quality of plants I've got from SpringHill Nursery is inconsitent to say the least. I was wondering if I should dig them out. Would that hurt them in case they are not dead? I think I am giving them to June first and them dig them out. Thanks again.

They need very warm soil to get moving - sortof like Elephant Ears. And it really hasn't been consistently warm in the NE & MA at all this spring (this past week has been about the nicest, but the chill is coming again tonight and tomorrow).

If you did decide to dig them out, perhaps take a big scoop just in case there are growing roots.

I would definately wait til it warms up or maybe carefully dig them up and pot them up in large pots and put in a warm sunny spot inside. I recived two rhinzomes in a trade and started them in pots right away thay didn't start to show any growth until we got a warm day and then only one sprouted the other came up about a month later when we had a few warm days.
Once they start growing they will really take off. Mine grew inches in a few days.
Don't give up on them yet.

Thanks guys, you are great. I love this site, it's my fist time here and I am very impressed with you all. So, the mystery is solved. I did follow your advice to dig them out. They werenÂt dead but they werenÂt growing either. I moved them to a sunny location and I am keeping my fingers crossed.
