Can I lift tuber higher in pot?

I planted 3 tubers in a large pot on a day that I was short on potting soil. There was not enough soil to fill the pot but I was in a hurry to get them planted. The tubers are just starting to grow. Can I pull them up, add more soil to the pot and replant them or is it too late? How deep are they supposed to be anyway? They are planted kind of shallow so I thought maybe I could add more soil on top of them but with the new growth I was afraid I would kill them. Any advice? Thanks.

Cannas are tough to kill go for it. They really don't take off until the temperature get pretty high anyhow and I've noticed your in NY Z5/6. You won't hurt them much. I've been planting them very shallow (1" or less) for years with fantastic results. I just this year, noticed the recommended planting debth is deeper. Go figure?
