canna virus -- soil

is it possible for canna virus to be spread in soil? all

reading i've done indicates spread by feeding insects.

i've had city of oklahoma's for about 5 years, and this is

first time i've seen striped leaves on them. i usually

rotate canna and dahlia plantings each year, and don't want

to infect a new area of soil if soil can be agent of spread.

Virus transmission via soil in cannas is considered highly unlikely by most professional virologist and pathologist who have a background in cannas. There are viruses that can be transmitted by some soil pathogens or even root to root contact but to date none of these infect cannas.
I am unaware of any "scientific" trials that may provide definitive facts either pro or con so we must rely on professional horticulturists for their observations and insight.
