Lenape and The President - Dead?

Posted by juliany 5 (My Page) on

I purchased several rhizomes from Willowcreek Gardens and I noticed that neither the Lenape nor The President are producing any growth. I dug down to see and nothing is growing. Rhizomes are not soft or mushy but it really doesn't look like the rhizomes have any eyes.
I have them in pots.
The others I got were Maudie Malcolmn, King City Gold and Tropical Sunrise which are coming up okay so far.Slow but they are coming along.

Anyone else have problems with Lenape and The President? I tried emailing Willowcreek but still no response.

Julia

My Presidents are doing very poorly. We haven't had an rain in San Antonio and I think it may be the city water. Too much chlorine or something...

Still nothing showing on mine and no response from Willowcreek Gardens. Guess I can cross them off my list of places to buy from in the future.

Juliany - just a follow up like I promised. I dug around and my Presidents are dead. The soil where I had them is very heavy, though, and though raised, it may have retained too much water during these rains the midwest has had. So they may have gotten too wet while waiting to grow. Still doesn't tell me why the rhizomes stored so poorly, though this is the same ground I pulled them out of last fall. Whatever the reason, I will need to also figure this out. I enjoy mass plantings and am forced to lift in fall. I hope I don't encounter this problem with any of my new ones. If I do, I will have to scale down and just plant new in spring until I figure it out because the cost of losing so many would soon become prohibitive.

tess_2008: Sorry to hear all the Presidents are dead.
I have mine in pots and all the others I planted are doing okay but Lenape and President.
Must be a bad year for President.:-(.
