canna not coming up

hello

I recently recieved a canna in the mail and planted it around May 1st. It was a canna black....something, i forget the rest of the name but it has been a month now and their is no sign of life. When i dug up the rhizome it has still firm. It is in a large pot in an area that gets full sun aalmost all day. What is wrong?

If it's a Black Knight, maybe this is characteristic of the variety. I had one last year that was slower to get going than other cannas. Maybe it waits for a higher soil temperature. How is the weather there?

days are ranging betwween 70-80 degrees and nights 50- 60 degrees
