Cannas in Pots

Hi Gang,

I've read the FAQ and back posts, but I still have a queston or two about growing Cannas in pots.

I've been growing some in tubs in a low area of my yard, they get wet feet now and then, but may go months without flooding. I think most of my plants do best if they get the wet feet now and then.

I want to put some in 10- or 15-gallon containers in the front yard and intermix them with azalels and hollies, etc.

I think I'll put a liner inside the pots so that there will be 2 inches or so of undrained soil at the bottom of the pot. Has anyone tried this? I use the same method for bog plants but just line the entire container nearly to the top.

Hey Joe, I had some stuck in a bucket to repot and forgot them at the side of the house. No drainage whatsoever. The bucket pretty much stayed full of water & the canna did great. There were a couple in there, orange, yellow, bengal tiger.
How did your crinum talk go last week? Sorry I missed it, had to work. Maybe I'll make it next time. The crinum seeds I got from you are doing great.

I have about 10 different varieties all in pots with no drainage. All sealed with silcone. I keep standing water in the pots all the time. I couldn't be happier with the beautiful display of flowers and 5'-10' plants. This is my first year with canna and my wife thinks I am some kind of Plant Master. I only keep standing water and feed once a week with a 30-30-30 fertalizer.

When growing Canna in pots, can they come inside in the winter? If so, will they stay green or bloom if kept watered? I have been wanting to try this ;-)
