cutting back for second bloom..help

i just recieved some cannas from my mother in law, she purchased them on clearance at lowes. I was wondering how far down to cut the stalks in order to get that second bloom? do i cut it to the first leaf from the top where the stalk is emerging from the leaves? Help..I'm clueless.

Hi Daniella,

Some varieties send up 2 or 3 bloom stalks from one main stem. You can try cutting off the dead flower stalk, just below where the 1st bloom opened. Once that stalk is finished with the flowers/buds, it's done and you should cut that stalk down to the ground. New stalks should be coming up from the ground. These will give you new flowers.
