Australia and wind

| Hi folks, I bought an Australia about a month ago and what I noticed about her is she's thin. When it arrived, it had 2 leaves and very nice color. However, I noticed, the leaves tend to bend so easily.
I'm planning to plant her next year at the back. However, I'm very worried since at the back, there are times that the wind is strong. Are australia's not meant for open areas?
Here she is. What you are seeing is a new seedling that came out a week or 14 days ago. I really love the very deep maroon color and also the smooth texture.
The 2 at the back are Black Knight. I like its thick trunk. Australia is so skinny.

| Actually, I was searching about Australia Canna. I found out that someone responded to my other A Canna post. She said that it's possible that the A Canna I receive is a seedling. She said, it will be fine next year. :) |

| I have a Australia canna and it does seem to be thinner than most. I have it planted in a pot and has no protection from the wind, but it has not suffered any damage at all. I think because the leaves are not as wide as the other types, the wind does not affect it much. Monica |

| I think, I know now the reason why the leaves weren't firm. When I got them, the leaves were already open. It's the same thing that happened to my musa basjoo. When I got it, it had 3 open leaves. After 3 days or 1 week, the leaves were at total disaster. Then I noticed that newer leaves are stronger. It doesn't get affected anymore by strong winds. So I'm hoping that cannas will be the same. By the way, I have a mystique that is like 10 inch to 1 ft tall. Should I dig the rhizome or just bring them in the house so it continues to grow? |
