What is everyone using for canna fertilizer. I am using miraclegro, but was told it contains too much nitrogen for canna. What are you having the best luck with?

I use Miraclegro as a supplement for my cannas both in the ground and pots. The ones I grow in the ground get compost in the spring when I re-plant and and again in the fall when I lift them. I usually use garden hose applied Miraclegro every week-2 weeks in summer for ground plants and potted get fertilized every week as they fill the pots with roots.

You could experiment with different products/methods and keep some as you are doing now for the "control". That's how I got to my method. Another good suppliment for potted plants is "compost tea", five gallons of water to two buckets of compost, let sit a few days. A dipper full along with the watering will keep them growing well.

I use the regular Miracle-gro every two weeks when they first start growing that is end of May until June. Then I use Miracle-gro Bloom Booster Fert. end of June until Aug every two weeks. The regular MG will give you more leave and less flowers.

Here in Boynton Beach, Fl. I feed my cannas (11 0f them in big pots) Miracle Grow Bloom Booster. They seem to like it!
