I can't tell what zone you are in, but if you get frozen ground, you don't want to plant your cannas in the Fall. They need to be stored for the winter in a cold, but not freezing environment (like a garage without heat) packed in peat moss or the like. Take them out in the Spring and plant them and enjoy!
