Use the lime-green coloured sweet potato vines as a groundcover at the foot of the cannas. Especially with the red-leaved cannas, this provides a very dramatic footing for these big showy plants.

I am in zone 9 and if I have frost I just cut back the dead leaves. They stay up all year. I am going to do something like that, only red, yellow, red blooms and green, green, burgandy foliage. Mine Is U shape with different colors on the sides and palm trees in the center. This is a view from one side. I figure I will have about 5' of plants along the fence. I don't have ground cover. Just pine straw. I do have the wild yam in the dark leaf under my Elephant Ears which would be to the back of this picture.

I'm looking for suggestions as to what to plant under canna and elephant ears. Their foliage is beautiful but the ground looks a little bare underneath. Any suggestions? Pictures would be great.
