what are the odds

| So I have 4 more cannas that need to be taken care of. My only known canna is a Cleopatra and it is in a pot next to tall red also in a pot. Stripey and little pink are in the ground. I am in zone 7 what are the odds of stripey and little pink making it through the winter?
This is my first year with un hardy anything including cannas. I love them and want them to live I just dont want to hurt them when I dig them up (there were some previous rhizome breaking off incidents with the 4 i dug out of planters 2 weeks ago).
Should I just cut back Cleopatra and tall red and leave them in their pots in the garage for the winter? Tall red is still trying bloom.

| They should be OK in zone 7, but I think the safest way to keep them outside would be to plant them in the ground and put six inches of mulch over them. I pretty much have to yank mine, but It has it's benifits. In the spring when I take the rhizomes out of the bag they are easy to divide, so it is much easier to expand the garden. |

| We, too, leave our canna in the ground through winter (although our winters are not as cold), and cover them with a good layer of mulch. This seems to be effective - however, we've only been growing canna for three years. |
