How long for cannas?

I received 10 canna roots in the mail from Springfield Mo.I`m in B.C.Canada.They arrived in perfect conition. I planted them in large pots, two to a pot two weeks ago.They are in my heated plant room,15c/60f temp.with flourescents.Can anyone tell me about how long they will take to show growth?Watching them break ground is just as exciting as the first blooms. Don`t want to miss it,as I will be away for a few days at New Years.Thanks, FLOLW.

I'm no expert, but I think that unless your temperature is higher in your plant room (70 degrees or more) you won't see viable growth. Sometimes my stored rhizomes in my basement sprout at about 60 degrees, but this isn't a good thing. See "The 11 Things I've Learned About Growing Cannas" posting- I agree that it doesn't help to start early and the best thing to do is wait until you can directly plant outside for your growing season.
