I WSed Clematis tangutica a couple of years ago. It germinated that spring and bloomed this summer. Other clematis may be different, though. I WSed 'Guernsey Cream' and 'Ville de Lyons' this winter and i'm not sure what to expect.

I winter sowed Tangutica a few years ago as well. It's one of the easy ones. There's some that require more time, and for those, I would recommend trying to root by air layering. At least I think that`s the term.

Simply bend a `branch` down to the ground and cover the section which touches the ground with soil, then anchor with a rock or a piece of hanger. Leave for a season or so until rooted. My mother has done several this way. She`s got the knack - I have such a hard time doing this.

I have tanguitica on my back fence....bought it a few years ago because I was told it would take off.....easy.........still waiting! :) It is rather slow to get going but it is hanging in. I have the president on an arbour out front and another one on the side fence...can't remember the name right now. None of them are spectacular in their efforts, they too are barely hanging in, but I am determined to have beautiful clematis!! I love them.
This year I have planted jackmanii, rouge cardinal, and nelly moser. I fugured it would be a while until they were mature enough to flower, but when reading the article, I realized that I might have to wait longer than I expected to to even have germination.
I will be patient and see what happens.
Right now all my bottles are just starting to be visible after the last blast of snow. It is only -1 right now and is expected to 'climb' to +2 this afternoon with sun!! YAY!!

Cuttings are the easiest method of increasing stock. Just use root cubes or regular seeds starting mix.
