Gaillardia 'Dazzler' - Perennial

Has anyone grown this plant? I love Gaillardia and got some seeds in a swap in 2006. The information said they were perennial and would bloom the second year, so I waited until last year and they bloomed beautifully and profusely. This year, there is no sign of them. The stalks left from the winter just came out of the ground bone dry and nothing is coming up yet? Is this a biennial, or does it come up really late like Hibiscus?

It is either a biennial or a short lived perennial, depending on your zone. They self sow quite nicely, so just look around and try to spot some of the seedlings. You will, of course have to wait until next year for the flowers. Trying to get the alternate generations going on something like this can take forever if you are like me and either forget to gather the seeds or forget to plant them.It has taken me 5 years to get the two generations of clary sage going in my garden.

Thanks for info., Newine. I actually thought it was a native plant. I don't think I'll have any seedlings since I collected all the seeds, but I do have some left so maybe I'll sow some in the summer. Hope they'll germinate without cold strat. I really love the flowers and I am a little disappointed - had two plants and now nothing. But I am learning to be very patient as a gardener, and there's always one more thing to do. Thanks.
