OT - Have you seen this in your garden?

Hi everyone:
Now that it's getting warmer I have been preparing my vegetable patch for sowing. While loosening my soil, I have come across an unfamiliar pupa (5 of them) so I decided to investigate. It turns out that it is the pupa of the Bertha Armyworm, which is a pest in the western provinces, particularly causing damage to canola, but there are other crops it feeds on including potatoes. I guess it is making it's way across the country so if you come across it, be aware of what it is. I have disposed of the ones I found. Detailed information says that pupation begins in August, but the ones I found were alive and moving. Here is a pic.:

OH!! I see lots of them. They are kind of creepy because they kind of thrash around in your hand.....the pointy end wiggles around! I 'dispose' of them promptly! :) gg |
