Anyone planting out in Ontario??

Hello everyone, what's up? Is everyone so busy planting out? I did my first planting out today - one pot of petunias and one hanging basket of Nasturtium Alaska. I got the Nasties in a trade and WS'd the seeds because they looked a bit 'worn' but they all germinated and produced nice strong plants. I put one in my 'tree trunk' planter instead of the usual Lysmachia. I am looking forward to these petunias - I got the seed from a garden at Upper Canada Village. They were huge and a beautiful mix of colours so I hope they come true. We have had awafully cold weather here recently - frost for the last few morings and I lost my radishes which were doing quite well. Now I must replant. Suddenly this afternoon it became very warm - in the 20's - so I went out and started some planting and finished my 'moving'. It seems we always have to move after the 2nd year and the plant shows its true colours. This was a Monarda fistulosa which grew to over 5 feet in its second year - too tall for my 2 foot wide front bed, so it's now against my west fence. How's the weather out your way and what are you doing?

Hi Northerner Here in Ottawa we have been experiencing rain and cool temps, but needless to say I have been planting out my WS "babies". Greatfully everything appears to be growing, somewhat slow but hopefully with some sunny weather, summer will finally be here. wendy

I have WS mostly native perennials, and they are still very small. I think I may plant out some but keep the rest in their pots for a while, in case the others die. This is my first attempt at WS so it is a learning experience for me. Some things didn't germinate very well. I think the pots got too wet, even though they have big drainage holes in them and I used porous soil. Others have germinated, but then have grown very little since.

Hi Willow: I have planted out some tomatoes but found they have not been doing anything. One or two died even though I had them under clear plastic bottles for protection from the cold weather. Luckily, a friend brought me some of his plants yesterday - grown in a greenhouse. Like Ontnative, my native seedlings are very small - too small to plant out. We finally had two good days of sun so on Monday I planted out most of my veggies: peppers, tomatoes, long beans, okra and today I hope to get in my pole beans and zucchini. I had chosen this year to direct sow many things: parsley, cilantro, lettuce, nasturtiums, and morning glories but I fear it's too late for summer lettuce. I started Yvonne's salvia indoors and they may go in today as well. This may be a summer to remember for us in Ontario.
