Winter Sown Perovskia - Russian Sage

Does anyone have experience winter sowing this plant? I have always wanted this plant and got a few seeds last year, winter sowed them, and planted them out in the fall in front of my perennial poppies to hide them after bloom. They were good sized plants, but this year, I can't see any sign of them coming back. The original stalks are there looking as dead as ever. Is it time to give up on them? There are some perennials - my Hibiscus- for example which have not yet shown any signs of life but that's standard for them. Are these late starters? I have no more seed.

I have one that is nearly 5 years old. If I remember correctly, it is always a little late coming back. The first few years I always wondered if it had died or not! Right now there are no signs of life. I'm not worried about this plant, it will come. I know it's alive because I brought some of the babies into the house and they have all sprouted. Marg

Thanks for letting me in on your experience, Marg. I will try to be patient just a bit longer. Just have to remember they are there when my son is mowing - he might go over them as he did my toad lilies last year!! They are almost completely obscured by my poppy foliage, so I should mark them with stakes. Hope they have survived!!

Hooray!! They're back. I was out early this morning - something had overturned the top of our composter - and decided to take a look. Just at the very bottom of both plants were little sprouts of green. Thank goodeness. I also thought that my lavender was dead - my son even said that to me yesterday, but it also has little shoots of green at the bottom. Everything's waking up!! Spring is here!!
