Sub Arctic Plenty started under lights

Sub Arctic Plenty winter sown

ws between potatoes and sugar snaps -- maybe it's not a fair trial :)

ws second batch (either Purple Prince or Visions) these were planted at the two leaf stage in a temporary cloche. I started the second batch because the first batch was slow to germinate. You really need to keep the faith if you're winter sowing.

Wintersown March 15 Siberia tomatoes now have green fruit and lots of flowers.
I have them in a horizontal tent type greenhouse so they can be zipped in if early frost threatens. Since they are in pots I might bring one or two into house when cold comes.

Also have ripe fruit on a Tumbler tomatoe grown from a broken top of a plant.

My ws are now much larger and most have set fruit. So, I should get green tomatoes at least. Plants that were two inches when I planted them are now about 3 feet tall.

I just picked a couple of sub arctic plentys. It looks like a couple of the World Vision tomatoes are about to blush.

Sometimes I think because we have such a short season, we relish the harvest that much more. Many of mine are still green and so I am ready to do a quick harvest of green tomatoes as soon as the weather people say frost threatens.

I usually wait for the frost to kill the leaves before I harvest green tomatoes. Usually, the leaves are hit before it's cold enough to damage the tomatoes.

I would not have thought of waiting until leaves are hit by frost.
Another year I'll keep that in mind.
Tomorrow all the fruit will be brought in both the green and ripe.

I got a few ripe (colour turning) tomatoes off the winter sown plants (mainly sub arctic plenty). Most of the crop was green. I waited for frost to pick and most look alright. However, next year I'll pick them before the frost. The cherries and almost ripe tomatoes were sticky -- I don't know if it was the tomatoes or the leaves. I'll be going through them today to check for frost and other damage.
