I was wondering if anybody has tried the new water cooler bottles for WS. We get our water cooler water now in big bottles that go to the bottle depot (30cts?) instead of the sturdy ones that you return/refill in store. I am thinking I could plant a lot of seeds in the bigger bottles.

Would I need to line clear bottles with dark plastic bags or something to keep the soil in the dark? I am just wondering since I heard roots don't like light and most pots and plug trays are black.

as long as you can handle the preparation of the bottles (making holes, cutting the upper part off or partly off) and you can have at least three to four inches of soil, they will be fine....no darkness for any part needed. :)
I mainly use 2 litre pop bottles and they are fine.

Absolutely. I love those large bottles myself and have used them for Winter Sowing. There is no need to keep the soil in the dark.

Have used these bottles and they work well...noted to put 3-4 inches soil ( think that is where i go wrong)
