Since you started the project, I would just go ahead and finish.

You're right. It is getting cool a bit faster this year, but there's still time. Water well and deeply, especially if you don't get rain. Don't worry about the tops, but concentrate on the roots. And when things start to really really get cold, mulch your new garden well with shredded leaves and such.

I've heard of Canadians in our zones going straight into the start of November for transplanting. I know I've gone to the end of October... The soil is still warm, and it's the roots you want to settle in.

Thanks Tiffy -- that's encouraging to hear that people have transplanted right into the start of November. I'm going to try to get this done by the end of October... that gives me a good 5 weeks!
