My venus flytrap looks ill

I purchased my healthy venus flytrap from Peter D'Amato who owns California Carnivores in Sebastopol (fall). Anyway, I had it for quite awhile and it appeared to be lacking sunlight (my house is nearly dark all day no matter what window I put my plant in). Eventually the tips of everything turned black so I bought a grow light. While I was buying the light the guy reminded me that my flytrap might need to go dormant.

I'm not too sure if my plant knows it should be dormant now or not, but it is looking very unhealthy so something must be up.

Meanwhile a Cape Sundew of mine was also suffering. I trimmed the majority of it's growths down to the stalk (they were dead on the tips) and now it has plenty of new growth sprouting out everywhere.

Should the dead parts be trimmed like the sundew?

Unhealthy: Discolored, new growth looks weird

Sundew is on the right track... right?
