when to repot a VFT?

I have a VFT that needs repotting. I bought it a year ago, as a single plant, and left it in a 3'' pot it came in, but now there are 2 large and I think 3 more small plants in there, and they look too snug in there. So I'm trying to figure out what's the best time to repot them.

The plants are dormant now. I keep them in a sunny but cool and drafty window, where the temperature is about 50F, and it seems to be working well, the plants are not growing new traps, but look healthy otherwise, so I'm assuming this set up is working well for them.

So when should I repot them: when they are still dormant, or when they are about to come out of dormancy (when would that be?), or when the plants resume growing?

And also, if you have any tips for a newbie for repotting VFTs?

Thanks in advance!
