'Root' on Pinguicula flower?

I have two Pings blooming now. Both bought at big chain stores and only ID'd as Pinguicula sp. Based on what I've been told here, my best guess is that they are the "Pirouette" hybrid of Mexican species.

Anyway, I'm wondering about this one:

Notice the white structure sticking out almost horizontally to the left. (Looks somewhat like a root to me.) I've never seen anything like this on ping blooms or photos of them. I know of a few non-carnivorous plants that grow "babies" on their flower stalk, so I was wondering if that might be the case here.

Most likely, I think, it's just a random deformity that serves no reproductive purpose.
