It should do well in a pond. I keep a little bit in each pot of my window sill plants, but have a small container that is under artificial lighting and kept wet.

I also bought some live sphagnum moss from a seller and just ordered another bag of it to make sure I have enough to keep it all growing and producing more for my CP and orchid needs. I took all the moss I got out of the bags and separated out the mostly dead strands from the live strands and snapped the stems about 2-3 inches down from the capitulum so it is mostly sitting upright in containers. So far it has only been 2 days since I got it but it is still green so I hope to keep it all alive. I did collect a good bit of rain water and have some of the live moss just sitting in about 1.5 gallon plastic bin and it is pretty much all submerged in the rain water. I also had some younger sphagnum moss growing in there from the dried moss that germinated spores so it is a few different kinds of moss all mixed in one clear bin. It gets about 1-2 hours of direct sun and bright light for another few hours each day, but I want to try getting it in direct light for a few hours each day- i just do not want to overheat it, so I supplement with a florescent light that is about 2- 4 inches above the moss- I hope that provides enough light. Let me know if you think this is ok or if I should adjust anything.

I wouldn't put it in the pond unless you're going to let it soak in pure water for a couple of days before using it on your carnivorous plants. If you don't you will transfer minerals from the pond to your soil. You can keep it in an aquarium with about an inch of pure water in the bottom and mist it if the top starts to dry out some or fill it with water. It requires pretty good lighting.
