Would that be similar conditions as that of a terrarium? If so, many hobyists have Nepenthes in similar conditions and some keep butterworts that way as well. My Neps and pings are all exposed to the air, sitting at wimdow sills. The Neps are in a planter and the pings are in individual plastic pots or cups. Try and experiment!

The clay hydroton beads might be fine for that purpose so long as you only utilize neutral substances, like clay beads, rather than minerals and nutrients.

Nepenthes might take well enough to hydroponics as they really do not live through their roots so much as other plants do. Some Nepenthes have been observed growing epyphitically in trees after having abandoned their root systems completely. Apparently they are able to absorb enough water through their leaves and vine to survive.

Venus Flytraps have been grown in semi-hydroponic conditions in pure perlite and vermuculite with poor results. It seems that growers cannot get away from sphagnum peat as a prefered mix for many species. If you have extra plants you would not mind loosing or messing up, I suppose you could try petiolaris's advice and experiment. Maybe you can find an easier or healthier way to raise carnivorous plants.

i think i will wait until my nepenthes get bigger, then i will do the stem cutting and see if it will take to the s/h.
i might also try a mix of s/h and sphag, some orchid people do that for certain kinds of orchids
