VFT seeds info.

Hello all,

With all the questions this time of year about Venus Flytrap seeds and flowers, I figured it might be helpful to show some pictures of the flowers when they are about ready to drop seeds and what those seeds look like.

These flowers have already started dying back. There are two that are close to dropping their seeds. When they turn black and dry out, their sepals will eventually begin to draw back and fold up, allowing the seed pod within to dry out and crack open. Just keep an eye on the flowers and when you see them start to dessicate and open up some again, you can snip it off and crush the pod to get the seeds out.

When the dead flower is removed and crushed, the seeds will fall out. There might be no seeds or as many as a dozen or so according to many factors (light, insects caught, plant health in general).

This is what the seeds will look like. This image is multiplied by about 8 times.

Once you collect them, just drop them on some damp peat moss and place them under some good intense light. Keep them watered and watch them grow in a few weeks.
