Carnivorous Plants

Yet another Nepenthes question

I bought a Nep at the Army Commissary (or all places!). I think it's an alata (red & green pitchers about 6 inches long at the ends of leaves).

It has about a dozen pitchers and is growing new leaves/vines at the top. It's hanging in a birch tree and gets dappled sun all day.

My questions are about sunlight. I know that "full sun" in Maryland is a different animal from "full sun" in Asia. Should my plant be in more sun? And what about wintering inside? Should I put it with the orchids? Lots of light there. African violets? Less light, but still plenty.

I'm not new to plants, but wintering this thing might be tricky.

I wouldn't give it sun, just BRIGHT defused light. When you move it inside in the fall a South or west window during the winter is fine. The Sun is less intense in winter. Wintering isn't tricky at all!

...although, they are almost equatorial, so having a good 11 hours of light in the fall/winter/spring will keep them pitchering. Mine stopped pitchering around November, when at a window sill.

Yes mine stop pitchering in fall/winter. In spring a light spraying on the leaves with 1/4 strength orchid fert. will aid in pitchering.
