Yep I use it year round and have for 5+ years. it works great. I collect it all summer and stock up as much as I can for winter. Better than rain water where I live.

RE: dehumidifier water?

Guys, here is what I found after a little research:

Q How may I use the water condensed by my basement dehumidifier? Is it safe to use in any way?

A The water collected by a dehumidifier isn't pure, and it's probably best just to pour it down the drain. The water comes from condensate on refrigerant-type coils and it collects in a basin. The water washes dust out of the dehumidifier as it drips into the collection basin, where it also collects dirt.

Fish breeders won't use dehumidifier water in aquariums because fish don't breed well in it, possibly because copper or zinc collects in the water from the condensation coils. Watering plants may be the safest re-use of this water, however the minerals may be an issue there, too.

It's best probably to just pour it down the drain.

Guess that stands to reason. Is there any device out there which doesn't do that? (the pervervial "vaporator" of star wars fame?)

RE: dehumidifier water?

Sorry but the info about DH water not being safe because there is dust in it is just BS. I've been using Dehumidifier water for years and it's perfectly safe. My plants thrive in it. Most of my plants were purchased as 2 or 3 year old plants. They've all grown huge and devided multiple times. All my plants bloom anually and I've managed to raise several seedlings from the seeds dropped into the pots (I make no attempt to grow plants from seeds). In fact my VFTs have become almost weeds. I started with 3, 6 years ago and from devisions and seedlings I now have 40+. If it's so bad then please tell me why my plants do so well.

From what I have read, but not experienced, dehumidifier water is safe... but maybe the difference lies in just what the dust contains. Generally speaking, most cp's can't take the mineral salts in water (Ca, Mg, K, Na). Personally, I would use distilled or rainwater... or Reverse Osmosis or deionized, if you have access.
