I've had D filiformis for years and never noticed this type of propagation. I have to either divide mine or grow them from seed. My guess is that it's normal. Most dews can easily reproduce vegetatively.

I'm not surprised at the great growth rate. SC is well with in the natural range of many CPs. It's amazing what can happen when you give your plants what they want.

Drosera filiformis can usually be reproduced through leaf cuttings, so when the leaf fell over, it was in range of soil and water, so it just self cloned. In a few months it should establish it's own roots and be old enough to seperate from the parent.

This is totally normal! I pull leaves and put them in centrifuge tubes filled with water. Here's a set of pictures from my very first leaf:

Thanks for the replies. Cool....it's normal!! I love propagating plants so maybe I need to play around with some propagation of these things. I wonder what other surprises these bog plants have in store for me. I think I'll researh them a bit more. one of my VFT's bloomed earlier...I guess I should have tried collecting the seeds. Oh well....I can do that next year.

I'm not sure if the seeds from the particular species or cultivar filiformis you have will be viable. It really is more effective to take leaf pullings. The same goes for D. binata:
