Well, I can tell you from -my- personal experience with the Dunescraft kit that chances are pretty good you did just waste you money. There's ALWAYS a chance, I'd say, but I don't think they are very good. Do what I did-after I waited for 2 additional months when it came out of the fridge, I tossed the container out and bought a very nice VFT from an online nursery.

Took mine out on my Birthday, 8 weeks passed exactly 1 week ago. No dice. I got the bigger one, and it's not a bad candidate for a minibog, I guess.

One thing I noticed is that when I looked up Dunecraft my version of the kit is AT LEAST 1 revision behind, and was marked something like (c) 2005. If those seeds had been sitting around for 3 years, well, small wonder...

Personally, my plan is to move something like a baby Flytrap, Pitcher Plant, Sundew, and Butterwort into it and just grow it as a minibog.

Those kits, as McCantrell indicated, are often failures and wastes of money due to the age of the seeds. Seeds need to remain refrigerated to remain at least partially viable for up to a year for many carnivorous plant species. After that year it is unlikely they would germinate. If they have been sitting in boxes in a warehouse somewhere then they have passed the viability date by many months or years. In addition, growing carnivorous plants from seeds in those goofy terrarium setups is never the easiest way to get started. Try adult plants from online nurseries and work your way up to growing from seeds. Never go for kits that look too good to be true no matter what they are selling.
