Nepenthes cutting needs help

I have HUGE nepenthes plant that I stupidly moved to another spot last year, it crapped out on me before I moved it back to its happy home. It has not produced pitchers in about a year and 1/3 of it is really starting to brown. I have read up on cuttings, I started 3 that as of a week and a half ago had 2-3, 1 cm roots on them as well as some terminal growth. I though this would be a great time to get them in some soil- Peat, sand and perlite. They have since rapidly begun to brown. I removed them this morning, the roots that were there are gone, I cut off more of the brown part and replaced them back into water and rooting stimulator to see if I can recover them. What am I doing wrong? When is the right time to place them into soil? HELP!!
