Dying Traps...

OK, here's another question for you folks out there:

From various sources, I've read that for a VFT, at the end of a trap's effective lifespan, the traps open wide and continue to photosynthesize. However, to a one, every trap on my VFT when it's died has shut tight and turned black. Is this normal? Is this an indication of some flaw or failure of mine to provide a proper environment? Other than that, my VFT has been growing nicely, with 14 traps in varying stages (from brand new to beginning to blacken) at this time.

Thanks!
