The pitcher plants that do not possess full hoods allow rain water to enter their pitchers as they use primarily bacterial action to break down insects trapped in their pitchers. Those that possess hoods or lids that cover the pitcher opening completely either produce their own digestive fluids, or add water to the pitcher on their own. The Purple Pitcher Plant uses primarily rain water as fluid to drown insects and allows bacterial action to break down insect proteins into nitrogen. They secrete only a small amount of digestive enzymes themselves to help the bacteria out. Whatever water falls into their pitchers should be left there. If the pitchers go dry, you should add some soft water to them. I usually just spray a few drops in each day to keep the pitchers about half full if they do not get rained on. Don't worry, the plants know how to take care of themselves.
