The apoximis will sap strength from the parent plant like the flower scape itself does. If the plant is in good health, it probably will not kill it. You can remove the plantlet at any time, but assuming you want to try to keep it alive, you will need to wait for it to grow some and try to root. You might try to tie a small clump of moss around the base of the plantlet while it is attached to encourage this rooting. I would think that seed production would commence, but you might not get many seeds in this case.

I was toying with the idea of bending the scape to the media surface and allow the V.A. to come in contact, taking root. Who knows... maybe you can "have your cake and east it!"

Hi Mutant and Petiolaris,

Thank you both for your help and suggestions. Petiolaris, mine looks very similiar to your pic. Are those roots starting there on yours? I really like the soil idea but I'm a bit leery of bending the scape, its strong and straight. I'm afraid it might cause it to break. Mutant, your moss idea sounds good just tumbling it around in my mind how to get it to stay and I assume it would need to stay constantly damp. Maybe a bit of gauze to help hold it in place.

The plant was doing good until this, now it just kinda looks dormant, but not of course. Hope she makes it, the seeds would be a bonus. Yes, I want my cake and eat it to. :) I hope to be posting a birth announcement, going to try anyway.
