It depends on the species you will see.
If you will be seeing temperate sundews, they will likely be a tight bundle of
leaves called a hibernicula.If you will be seeing north american pitcher plants,
then they will likley look the same since most speices of american pitcher plants
retain their leaves through winter.However, a few speices like S.flava and
S.orephila drop thier leaves in winter.Venus flytraps also drop thier leaves
in winter.

Thanks, Adrian. I'll look for he hibernicula for the temperate sundews. Does anybody have an idea about the bladderworts (Utricularia)? Will they still be 'normal' looking or will they already be dormant after the 32F temps the last few nights?

IF you see Pitcher plants in Northern CA. the only species native that you'll see is Darlingtonia californica the Cobra lilly Pitcher Plant. The above mentioned Sarracenias are all native to the Eastern and Southern U.S.

The Utricularias, if terrestrial will be gone from view completely. If, aquatic they may still be visible, but these form Turions which are dormant buds that sink to the bottom and overwinter. In spring they begin to elongate and regrow.

Thanks to Adrian & Fred for replies. I saw temperate sundews in the hibernicula form. A little disappointing, but somewhat expected. Maybe I'll go back next summer.

I'm going to take a trip to lessen and would love to see some carnivorous plants as well, could u tell me were u found the sundews? :)
