    Hey Kyle

    The pitcher that you think may be a "Purpera hybrid" also looks alot like the "Cobra Nest Hybrid"
    Heres a Pic:

    Cheers for that Sheldon, you may very well be right. I just got this from a garden centre labeled as a 'sarracenia hybrid'. From what I've read, if this doesn't go dormant in Winter, it will be a 'cobra-nest hybrid'.

    Vertigo, seems weird but I went on your website from my Dad's PC before and I saw your pictures. Despite this, I can't see them now on my own computer. The Cobra Lilies were fantastic though.

    Anyway, come on Sheldon - where are your piccies?

    Thanks

    I got my U. livida from Cobraplant.com. I don't think they have any more at the moment, but it's one of the easiest growing plants I have. It's spreading like mad through the soil of my classic terrarium.

    Erm, are you saying that be Cobras Nest Hybrid does not go dorment in winter?

    I have a small plant outdoors and frost is headed this way soon, I thought they go dorment just like other pitchers.

    Thanx

    Excellent plants Vertigo! I've always wanted to grow Drosera venusta. Is it pretty easy?

  • necro1234
    18 years ago

    Is the Venusta plant not a Cape Sundew like Capensis?
    Ive always wanted to try Drosera natelensis which is from the Natal Provenice in Southern Africa.

    Thanx for the awesome pics guys

    You can definitaly see the decline in some of the CP's And the Darlington californica is getting a new pot and bunch of sphagnum peat perlite mix soon (does that sound good for a D. Californica?)

    Dar. Californica
    {{gwi:566016}}

    D. Adalae
    {{gwi:566019}}

    D. Alaciae

    S. X Unknown Hybrid (definitaly not a s.minor like i thought)
    {{gwi:550621}}

    Nep. Ventricosa + Nep. Judith finn
    {{gwi:566026}}

    Venus flytraps These will be the last of these the winter is making them tierd. (dormancy time)
    {{gwi:566027}}

    (ive trimmed off most of the dead traps, i think most of them have halted growth in the last few frosts this last one was very hard hit)

    D. venusta comes from south africa, not sure where exaclty.
    its a subtropical plant and is easy to grow.
    id definetly reccomend it.

    that hybrid looks like S. psittacina x minor or something like that, definetly some psittacina in there...

    for the Darlingtonia id advise spagnum moss with perlite,
    and a way bigger pot, maybe 20cm or so...

    Thanks Akheadbanger, you lil plants look great.

    Vertigo, I can't see your pics on my PC (must have a dodgy browser setting somewhere) but I got on another computer today and saw them. They all looked absolutely marvelous.

    Just watched your vid Arie and you've got a hell of a good collection going there. I just love the big neps!

    Sheldon. I found this on google about cobra-nest hybrid pitchers..

    "This cultivar earned its patented status for its unique horticultural characteristics. It grows vigorously, year around, in a compact shape, about 25 cm (10 inches) tall..."

    I got it from
    HERE

    Dunno if it's true but it sounds feasible.

    Only one way to find out I guess and that's Winter.

    Thanks all and keep sendin your great pics!

    i got a larger pot that was what i bought it in a few days b 4 the picture. But it has TONS of runners, and sence i didnt have a lot of Sphagnum moss, i put three parts perlite, one part peat and one part sphagnum sence i didnt have alot. Im definitaly going to put sphagnum in it when i purchase some soon (aroud christmas time i get money no one knows what to buy a Teenager n e more!)
    lol Any ways ill be buying sphagnum and some stuff for my Dew tank. the mist isnt good for the dews so im gettin some kind of pipe to put on it and mist once or twice a week. and close the terrium a bit more to keep the humidity up. Though its cracked barly any as it is and it doesnt get Foggy on the sides. If i close it any more it will be prone to fungus and stuff!!!! but i cant be for sure i cant find any of my Mesuring tape and ohh well its better than that little container it was in.

    Hey :)

    I think the cobra nest hybrid does not continue growth but keeps its pitchers and colour during the winter.
    From what I read and from asking Jeff n Jacob a question on the plant during winter, I got a strong feeling that it does go dorment during winter but unlike S. Flava or many others, the pitchers stay during this period.

    Cheers

    Lol akheadbanger, nobody knows what to buy me either. I usually end up with beer and money.

    Cheers for that Sheldon. The plant does keep its pitchers for a very long period of time so that sounds about right. Although mine is still growing strong but has not lost a pitcher since I bought it in July.

    Cheers

    Hey Sheldon.

    Just to let you know. My Cobra-Nest Hybrid has completely stopped growing now and experienced a hard frost a few days ago. The pitchers all closed with the frost which I found facinating. When it melted, the lids just sprang open again.

    Looks like you were right.

    Cheers
