| I am looking to get a fruit fly culture. I don't know what species to buy or where to buy them. can you suggest a website? Do you know if BuyFruitFlies.com Is a good place to purchase from? |

| I'm not in the US so I can't help you with sources. Drosophila melanogaster is the most common and easiest to culture. The other species offered by BuyFruitFlies.com, D.hydei is larger than D.melanogaster but can be harder to maintain in culture (they have a longer lifespan and the sexes mature at different times). Both species are suitable for most carnivorous plants. You may find D.hydei more suitable for VFT's, while D.melanogaster would be preferable for Pings. Where ever you buy from, unless you want your house cluttered with flies, get the 'wingless' or 'vestigial wing' mutants. Wingless is pobably preferable as vestigial wing Drosophila have still have some ability to fly - they don't so much fly as jump and bounce, which may get irritating when you're trying to feed a plant. |

| Petiolaris, What do you use to inhibit mold without killing the flies? Or do you take no action against mold? |

| Mold hasn't been much of an issue. I keep things exposed to the air. But when I do see it I manually remove and cut back on watering. Other things to do is increase light. Some apply apply a little cinnamon to affected areas. Haven't tried it yet. |
