When it starts to stay in the low 40's consistently drain off the excess water from the pot, place in a zip lock baggie, spray a little SULPHUR based fungicide on it , zip it up and in the fridge it goes.

Yup, no need to remove soil. Just drain off the excess water.

No need to keep it in the fridge, you're in zone 9, taking advise from someone in zone 6. Our "winters" are not bad enough to need a fridge dormancy.

I'm also in zone 9. Leave it outdoors, all year! If you have a frost warning, throw some leaves over it. That's all you need to do here. I leave all my VFTs, Sarracenia, and temperate drosera outdoors in the same spot year round. VFT's are from a colder growing zone, no need to put in extra dormancy effort to protect it or cool it.
