I am in the same boat, it's been as far down as single digits during the nights here a few times. It's too late for mine (been out there for 2 weeks), they'll either live or they're already dead, but if I had to do it again, I'd probably just put them in the fridge and be done with it. That's what I did last year and my VFT came through it just fine.

Failing that you could use pine needles to mulch it, I hear that works quite well. Someone on another forum suggested a styrofoam cooler as a planter for the winter -- The Flytrap Ranch sells some high-density foam planters that might work the same way:

I have bought 4 of the planters (2 small 2 big) which should get here Tuesday -- again, too late to do anything this winter, but maybe next winter, eh?

You're son close to their native North Carolina. With a little mulching, as suggested by Mcantrell, you could get them through the winter. If you're uneasy about that, you could do as I have done: attic by a window and garage by a window. I have also taken the 2" pots and put them in the butter keeper.

Thanks, i might try just sticking them in the fridge tomorrow night and hope for the best. I might try leaving them outside next winter if i get to it fast enough

I have the opposite problem and one thing I've learned is that you can't keep them warm. Much more fatal than cold. Not sure what the low would be but the high is 45 and that appears to be for at least 5 weeks.
I reverse grow them from seed in winter as an annual. some will survive for around 7/10 months.
Interestingly they won't tolerate the Florida summer and of course it doesn't ever get cold. The fridge method works somewhat but if you have natural cold I'd sure work on that method . Too much work for this lazy person
