i don't live in n raleigh so i don't know, but they may have just stopped for the winter. you can go to the bulk end (where it says drive in welcome) of the state farmers market and their stuff is cheap (but some has to be bought in bulk). also, i have found chinese and mexican stands are often dirt cheap for produce. me, i'm hankering for some good mangoes.... good luck!

They used to be open year round. It was run by hispanics. There is now a tire place in there ! This place was really cheaper than the farmers market.

Try your local farmer's markets beginning in March, usually on Saturday mornings: Wake Forest, Cary, Durham, etc. Definitely fresh and locally grown. Corner fruit stands mostly truck their stuff in from anywhere just like grocery stores with the same prices. But, farmers are the vendors at these City farmer's markets so you are talking to the grower who may only live a 1/2 mile from you. At the Raleigh State Farmers markets the stuff could be from anywhere in NC. The bulk stuff can be from anywhere in the world. I don't believe they grow pineapple, bananas, and mangoes in NC.

But, green beans, garlic, tomatoes, radish, carrots, lettuce, blueberries, strawberries, horseradish, corn, herbs, squash, sweet potatoes, melons, okra, eggs, etc., etc. are at these city markets in season, picked the day before. Some things are cheaper than the grocery store (especially fresh herbs), some you wouldn't find at the grocery store (fresh figs or edible flowers are examples), and some may be slightly higher but better tasting or even less costly (especially truly vine ripened tomatoes), and most are grown with organic methods because the vendors don't have 40,000 acres, mostly just one or less, so they don't have to include -cides in volume and wax sprays for shipping, or labor costs.
