Coming to South Carolina

I hope it's ok to post this here, but I thought, who would know better what to do where we're going and what I would be interested in as far as plants and gardening, than the people on Gardenweb who live there !
We're going on our first vacation in 12 years...first going to Charleston, then to Columbia to visit the zoo and in between there is a reptile facility we want to visit .
As far as cheap and interesting places to stay and visit, any suggestions ? I can pack plants too and bring them with me if anyone wants an in person trade. I've never done that before but there's a first time for everything LOL.

Last time I was in Charleston there was a great farmer's market downtown on the big plaza across the street from my hotel - there were a few plant vendors and some great food. Also, if you go see plantations, I remember good plants for sale at Magnolia Plantation (my tea camelia from there is doing just fine in my zone 7 garden). I also enjoyed Hunters Island as a walk-on-the-beach sorta thing to do.

AHHH Lady,
I wish you were coming closer to NC, I would love to meet you somewhere and spend a few hours chatting and lunch or supper with you! OR even a glass of sweet tea!
I am sure you will love it, when are you going? EMAIL me and let me know :) Enjoy your vacation!!!

:) Fran aka Fanna lol

WEll...still havn't found a place to stay and our time is just 3 weeks away ! We've looked on Edisto Island as well as the outskirts of Charleston. The problem is that we insist on bringing our two Pekes and everyone wants to tack on a couple hundred just for us to bring them with us.
