The 2014 plant swap is set for Sunday, May 4 at 2pm at the Marion Diehl park shelter. The address is

Marion Diehl Park
2219 Tyvola Road, Charlotte, NC 28210

Charlotte Spring Plant Swap 2014
SUNDAY, May 4, 2pm, rain or shine!

There is only one shelter. The park is connected to Queens University Sports Complex, and you can turn into the park at the Queen's entrance, or the Marion Diehl entrance. Incidentally, the worlds largest standing lion statue is at the Queens Complex. "Rex" is 15 feet tall.

Back to the plant stuff!
For first time swappers - we don't care if you have weeds or high dollar orchids. If you have plants to give away and want them to go to good homes, this is the place to be. We trade anything and everything. If you don't have much, don't worry - we don't have rules about that either. If you don't have plants, bring food. Hopefully everyone will go home with more than they brought! Other gardening stuff is also welcome- pots, books, bulbs, cuttings, magazines, potting soil, tools, statues, etc.
Please label your plants. Something simple like "yellow daylilies" or "cactus houseplant" or "shade ground cover". This will make it easier to know where to plant the new plants we take home.

How it works: You show up early and place your plants in with all the other plants. You find a spot away from the shelter where you can stash the plants you grab during the swap. I will stand up and welcome everyone to the swap and ring a bell. You get to grab ONE plant and take it to your stash zone. We do this two or three times before we change it to TWO plants per ring and then THREE plants and finally we have a free-for-all where the leftovers can be claimed by anyone.

After the swapping is over, we'll sit down to enjoy a potluck snack with our new friends, so please bring a dish (finger foods) to share along with your plants. In lieu of a dish, you could bring paper plates, napkins, cups, ice, etc. Also, if you are inclined, you can leave a small donation toward the renting of the shelter.

Do you guys do pre-swapping on line thru GardenWeb, similar to the Raleigh swap? Any idea as to what type of plants folks are planning on bringing?

RE: HAVE: Charlotte Spring 2014 Plant Swap

We can do special trades, but we don't yet have a huge following like the Raleigh swap, so you may not get much response for special trades nor know what types of plants to expect..... I remember a lot of perennials last time. I advertise in other places as well, so if there's not a lot of response here, it doesn't mean anything. :) I hope you can join us!
