Japanese Beetles - Four O'clocks - Charlotte area

Has anyone tried four o'clock plants in containers or in the ground? They're reputed to be a great way to fight Japanese beetles. They attract the beetles away from your other plants such as cherry trees, roses, crepe myrtles and tomatoes. The leaves are poisonous to the beetles!

I'm familiar with milky spores and beetle traps and they're not practical ... I live in a condo.
