Beetle sightings early due to warm weather

lsst

This warm weather has more than people and plants confused.

Today, I spotted a Japanese beetle.

Tonight, I could not sleep and sat out on the porch. I saw fireflies!

I did a double take. I do not recall ever seeing them this early!

We have hit 91 degrees two days in a row. I hope we get the rain expected this Thursday.

Has anyone else seen unusual early sightings?

Well, we've had june beetles/bugs for about a week now. (masked chafer beetles for those official types). I think normally they come out about mid may around here. I certainly echo lsst's thoughts on the rain! We need it to cool off the air, wash off the pollen and with the heat, the plants are getting mighty thirsty!

I did see Tiger Swallowtails before April 1st which may not be all that weird but it seemed strange to me. After a week of heat I'm seeing everything, even reptiles. Spring has sprung!

John, we saw a couple tigers really early, too, and i thought it was odd. It was only a week or so after the last really cold snap... seems like ma would take care of her critters better than that.
