Yes, you should bury the bottom of the pot with your elephant ears, it really helps with proper drainage.
You don't have to bury half of it, just about 3-4 inches on the bottom, considering you are using big pots.
It is the same as wicking the pot, but easier.

I just know it works, because I have done it.
I love elephant ears.
I am planning on planting Calidum bulbs next to the front of my house within the next couple of weeks. To me, they look like elelphant ears only smaller.

Thank you butterfly4u!! I thought this may be a good way to put my EE's in but wanted to check with my buddies here for their thoughts. I think reading the container forum is where I came up with this idea. :-) I used a lot of extra care overwinter directions I had from my books on this last year, but not much success. I love Calidum as well, I'll be putting some of those in as well this year. I love the look of the EE's combined with Calidum! Thanks so much for your input!! :-)

Speaking of caladiums, does anyone know of a variety that can take some sun. I love them, but have no shade here. Would like to put some in the front bed, which gets morning and midday sun (till about 1:00 PM). Thanks
